For many of you, the online video clip may have brought up thoughts and feelings. Here are some questions to consider:

  1. What feelings did you experience immediately after watching this video clip?
  2. Where do you think these feelings come from (e.g. personal/professional experiences such as family of origin, current family, conversations with friends or colleagues, nursing education, work setting, other)?
  3. In what ways do mental health issues and depression and/or suicide in particular present themselves in your CHN practice?
  4. What is your role in working with people living with mental health issues (consider both clients and co-workers)?
  5. In what ways might you prepare yourself to meet the challenges of practicing with an enhanced mental health perspective?

  2. Within the context of your community practice, can you think of a time when your particular choice of words clearly affected the health message and the way in which the message was received?  
  3. Think about who you work with in terms of community, clients, and colleagues. In what ways are messages about health "languaged" for particular groups? What is the impact of this?
